About Marilyn
Art has always been a part of my life. I love being able to make something out of nothing and bring images to life.
I was born in Quebec, the fourth generation of my family in Canada. I've lived and been educated in Ontario. I feel a deep connection to this land.
In 2008 I graduated from the three year Adult Art Program at Central Technical School in Toronto. There I was introduced to a wide range of artistic practice: sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography, drawing and design. I have exhibited extensively across Southern Ontario since then.
My beginning point is often the human form. In some of my work the body displays strength and wholeness, a purity of form. I aim to seize a moment that may never exist again.
In other pieces, I look to the myths and legends of people around the world to represent more than our physical reality. I aim to convey an uplifting interconnection between humans and nature and to evoke both spirit and reality.
Artistic influences on my work are varied. I am inspired by the flow of Maori carvings, the dynamic simplicity of Inuit sculpture, Rodin's humans emerging from the rock and the spirit within ancient goddesses. Both Emily Carr and Karsh have shown me the importance of capturing the essence of the place and the person.
